Legomaniacs, Unite! Kids’ Play Bricks Needed for Care Fest
La Mesa Community Center needs the plastic toys to build sports cars for racing at September event.
It’s hard to imagine a childhood without Legos. For many, the seemingly bottomless variety bucket was a household fixture. But Michele Greenberg-McClung says she grew up in a home that was remarkably Lego-free.
“I know my daughter [had them], and I played with her,” she said of time with Ariana. “I always built houses, tables, beds and chairs―you know, a girl thing. I wasn’t too creative and I’ll admit that.”
Now the city’s recreations supervisor is collecting Legos of every kind in preparation for Kids Care Fest, the free health event on Saturday, Sept. 24, at on Wakarusa Street near Sharp Grossmont Hospital. She says the little bricks will be used to build sports cars for racing, just one of many of the day’s activities.
