Man Arrested In Attempted La Mesa Credit Union Robbery

A man accused of trying to rob Cabrillo Credit Union before apparently changing his mind and fleeing was arrested, authorities said.

LA MESA, CA — A man accused of trying to rob a credit union in La Mesa before apparently changing his mind and fleeing the branch was arrested Tuesday, authorities said.

Deon Dondre Allen, 28, of Georgia, gave a demand note to a teller at the Cabrillo Credit Union branch in the 7900 block of El Cajon Boulevard just after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the La Mesa Police Department.

Before the teller could comply, however, Allen left the credit union and ran westbound on El Cajon Boulevard, police Lt. Katy Lynch said.

Officers found the suspect within 10 minutes in the 5000 block of Guava Avenue. Allen was arrested without incident and booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of attempted robbery.
