No Fast/Smart Tracking TPP Rally @ Rep Susan Davis's Office

Congress Rep Susan Davis will be home in San Diego for
Congress's Independent Day recess June 27 - July 7 , and we need to
continue to pressure her while she is here to vote no on any Fast Track
legislation, including the new "Smart
Track" legislation that will likely be introduced after the November
2014 elections. When she goes back to Congress, those who support Fast
Tracking the TPP will likely be putting a lot of pressure on her to vote
for a new Fast Track bill that is being introduced by Senator Wyden
called "Smart Track". Unfortunately there is little reason to believe
that the Smart Track bill will be any different than the Camp-Baucus
Fast Track bill, which gives the President the right to sign the TPP
deal without Congress having an opportunity to scrutinize it.

The previous work we have done to fight Fast Tracking the TPP has
really paid off, as the negotiations between Japan and the US are
stalled due to Japan being aware that Fast Track is controversial here
in the United States. Japan needs Fast Track, or Smart Track, to pass
because the things they want are not likely to be approved if the TPP
has to go through Congress first. Reps from Susan Davis's office have
recently expressed that Fast Track may be better than letting the TPP go
through Congress, because we would not be happy with the outcome of the
TPP negotiations in the end if it did go through Congress, due to the
current structure of the House. I say we can do better than that!
First we need to stop Fast/Smart Track, and then we need to stop the TPP
if it can not be renegotiated and rewritten!
