'Play It Again Sports' Opens In La Mesa

LA MESA, CA –Play It Again Sports, a franchise, resale business that buys and sells used athletic gear and sports equipment, opened today in La Mesa at 8011 University Ave.

If you have such items to sell as gently used baseball gloves and bats, hockey gear, golf clubs, soccer, lacrosse equipment or motorized treadmills, you can turn them into cash on the spot.

And if you are seeking budget-conscious ways to outfit athletes of all ages for sports such as hockey, football, lacrosse and more, the new shop may be the answer.

Doors officially opened today, Thursday, but a full weekend of events and specials are planned through Sunday with raffles, swag bags, food and happy hour. The schedule is posted here.

The new Play It Again Sports site is owned and operated by local Dan Buxton, who started as an employee at Play It Again in Santa Barbara while attending college and then went on to open a store in Pasadena.

After relocating back to his native San Diego with his wife and children, Buxton saw how an East County location could fill the bill for athletes of community, high schools and youth leagues with discounted pricing on various items, sometimes up to 70 percent off full retail pricing.

"It also helps parents that may not know the commitment level of their child, but still want to encourage them to pick up a new sport or hobby," according to management.

No appointment is necessary to sell sports and fitness equipment to the business, plus the store also carries select new items. Hours are :

• Sunday: 10:00 AM-6:00 PM
• Monday: 10:00 AM-8:00 PM
• Tuesday: 10:00 AM-8:00 PM
• Wednesday: 10:00 AM-8:00 PM
• Thursday: 10:00 AM-8:00 PM
• Friday: 10:00 AM-8:00 PM
• Saturday: 10:00 AM-7:00 PM.
