Evacuations Lifted for Pointe Fire in Spring Valley [UPDATED]
The fire was 60 percent contained late Wednesday evening, according to Cal Fire-San Diego.

SPRING VALLEY, CA — A fast-moving brush fire that erupted Wednesday afternoon in Spring Valley, forcing evacuations, was 26 acres in size and 60 percent contained late Wednesday evening, according to Cal Fire-San Diego.
The Pointe Fire erupted for unknown reasons north of Sweetwater Reservoir off the 2900 block of Pointe Parkway in Spring Valley shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday and quickly scorched several acres, Cal Fire officials reported.
There were no immediate reports of structural damage, but a firefighter assigned to the blaze was injured when he was bit by a rattlesnake.

Authorities cleared people out of nearby homes along Ledgeside Street, near South Barcelona Street, as crews worked to subdue the flames by ground and aboard firefighting aircraft. Evacuations were also ordered for Pointe Parkway, California Waters Drive and Pleasant Water Court.

A temporary evacuation shelter was set up at Monte Vista High School, 3230 Sweetwater Springs Blvd. in Spring Valley.

By 6:45 p.m., however, Cal Fire reported that the fire was 40 percent contained and evacuation orders had been lifted.
The firefighter who suffered the snakebite was reportedly "doing great."
