Quarterback Questions Loom as Grossmont High Hosts Ramona
Both teams have had to go to Plan B after losing their prospective starters to injury.

It’s only fitting that Ramona and Grossmont high schools open the prep football season against each other.
You might say the teams are in the same boat, since the prospective starting quarterback for both the Bulldogs and Hillers won’t be in the lineup on the Foothillers’ field at 7 Friday night.
Ramona lost senior signal caller Travis Steven over the summer to a broken leg in a basketball mishap, so junior Hunter McHargue will take over the quarterbacking reins. He’ll have good protection from all-league center Eric Box and huge two-way lineman Kwayde Miller.

Sophomore Anthony Lawrence was Grossmont coach Ron Murphy’s choice at QB after an injury during an early practice caused a change in plans. The Hiller defense is expected to shine this season behind bothers Jon and Ryan Green in the secondary.
Ramona, which was 5-6 last year, has had success when facing Grossmont Conference foes in nonleague action, winning its last six games. But Grossmont, 9-2-1 in 2010, won the last meeting between these schools, a 38-8 romp in the first round of the 2002 playoffs.
