Rep. Susan Davis Joins in Introducing a Bill to Cut Medical Wait Times for Veterans

WASHINGTON – To help cut down on the red tape veterans face in getting medical care, Congresswoman Susan Davis (D-San Diego) joined Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and a bipartisan group in the House of Representatives in introducing H.R. 2661, the Veterans Access to Timely Medical Appointments Act. 

“We need to do better by our veterans who have sacrificed so much on our behalf,” said Davis, ranking member on the Military Personnel Subcommittee. “Many veterans face unique physical and medical issues.  These bureaucratic hurdles to care only add insult to injury.”

The bill would essentially enact the recommendations from a Government Accountability Office (GAO) report, Reliability of Reported Outpatient Medical Appointment Wait Times and Scheduling Oversight Need Improvement, which was requested by Davis and her colleagues. 

Primarily, the bill requires the Department of Veterans Affairs to schedule primary care medical appointments within 7 days and specialty care appointments within 14 days.
