Shooting Threat Against East County School Unfounded: Authorities

Deputies will be providing extra patrols at Steam Academy in Spring Valley.

SPRING VALLEY, CA – A school shooting threat against Steam Academy in Spring Valley is unfounded, authorities said Friday.

Deputies were called to the campus at 1001 Leland St. after a threatening message was found on a bathroom stall at the school. The message indicated there would be a shooting Friday, but sheriff's officials sad the threat was not considered credible.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department is working with the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District to investigate the incident.

"These are tense times for schools," sheriff's officials said in a statement. "The Sheriff's Department and local school districts take every threat seriously and nothing can be dismissed or ignored."

Students will be dismissed at normal schedule at 3:05 p.m. Deputies will provide extra patrols at the school.
