Hot on the heels of her NBC TV appearance on the hit show “Community” Grammy nominated recording artist Sophie B. Hawkins stars in the critically acclaimed musical Room 105: The Highs and Lows of Janis Joplin, at Sycuan Casino on Saturday June 15, 2013.
The shows starts at 8 pm, and ages 21 and over are welcome to attend. $25-$35 general admission tickets are on sale now. Starring Grammy-nominated Sophie B. Hawkins and written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Gigi Gaston, Room 105 is a thoughtful and entertaining tribute to legendary soul singer Janis Joplin. The show is a humorous, engaging, bittersweet and honest confessional. Hawkins as Joplin’s Ghost returned invites audiences into her creative world and turbulent life, telling a story that reveals the iconic singer’s thoughts on love, sex, fame and belonging.
Showcasing classic Joplin music and original songs by Sophie B. Hawkins, Room 105 brings the transformative counterculture of the 1960’s to life, with realistic imagery, and riveting dramatic elements of past to present day. “Hawkins echoes the fire of Joplin herself!” affirms Aspen Times.
American singer, songwriter and musician Sophie B. Hawkins is best know for her hits “Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover,” “Right Beside You,” and “As I Lay Me Down.” Her 1992 debut album “Tongues and Tails” earned her a Grammy nomination for “Best New Artist.”
Room 105 premiered on October 4, 2013 at West Hollywood’s Macha Theater - the anniversary of Joplin’s death - just blocks away from where the iconic singer had her last drink before her untimely death at age 27. The show enjoyed an extended run, and received critical acclaim. Last month, Room 105 enjoyed a Standing Room Only audience of close to 1100 at New Mexico’s Route 66 Casino Hotel.
