Toward Maximum Independence smashed its fundraising goal of $25,000 for its inaugural 5K For Independence foot race at the Embarcadero Marina Park North. Bringing in over $40,000 and registering nearly 400 runners from as far away as upstate New York and Pennsylvania, the race was a resounding success.
Former Channel 10 news anchor, Carol Le Beau, served as Honorary Chairperson for the event, and also presented awards and gift certificates to the top three fastest males and females. Several professional runners commented that the race was one of the best-organized in the crowded San Diego competitive running industry.
