Union Bank Named 2014 Corporation of the Year for Outstanding Growth by the Council for Supplier Diversity

The award recognizes a corporation that has demonstrated superior performance in supplier diversity.

SAN DIEGO, CA (Oct. 2, 2014)MUFG Union Bank, N.A., announced today that it has received the 2014 Corporation of the Year for Outstanding Growth by the Council for Supplier Diversity headquartered in San Diego. The award recognizes a corporation that has demonstrated superior performance in supplier diversity by achieving outstanding growth in diversity spending over the past three years.

During the past three years, Union Bank increased its spending with diverse businesses by more than 36 percent (from $124 million in 2011 to $168 million in 2013). Diverse businesses include minority-owned, women-owned and service disabled veteran-owned businesses.

“We’re honored to receive this recognition for our efforts to support supplier diversity,” said Union Bank Director of Supplier Diversity & Development Richard Chacon. “In the last three years, we made a dedicated effort to increase our spending with diverse businesses because it supports the communities we serve.”

Union Bank also underwrites and coordinates many programs supporting diverse businesses, such as statewide Cybercrime Workshops, Construction Training Workshops, Small Business Education and Technical Assistance scholarships to attend the UCLA Anderson’s Management Development Program, and Supplier Diversity Boot Camp Training events held in conjunction with the Latin Business Association.

“Union Bank’s commitment to results and growth in diverse supplier purchasing activity has made a positive impact,” said Council for Supplier Diversity President Ron Garnett. “For more than ten years, the Council has held an awards ceremony to honor companies like Union Bank because we think it’s important to recognize and celebrate corporations that are investing in their communities and helping underserved businesses grow.”

In 2013, Union Bank won the President’s Award from the Council. Chacon also won the Council’s Advocate of the Year Award in 2013.
