SAN DIEGO, CA (JULY 23, 2015) – As part of its commitment to responsible banking and supporting the San Diego community, Union Bank recently teamed up with the Padres for two special programs: Military Appreciation Day and the Union Bank Financial Literacy Program. In conjunction with these events, the bank also donated $20,000 to the Padres Foundation for Children.

On July 18, Union Bank honored the United States military at the Padres vs. Rockies game and donated 500 Padres tickets to local military men and women -- including the Marine Corps, Navy SEALs and Coast Guard -- and their families. The group enjoyed the game, and Marine Corporal Betty J. Manners, recognized for her leadership and perfect 300 score on physical fitness and combat tests, threw the first pitch.

The bank also kicked off the Union Bank Financial Literacy program before the July 21 Padres vs. Giants game. Bank volunteers taught a financial education course to approximately 50 youth and their families from Juma Ventures, a non-profit dedicated to helping low-income youth achieve their dreams of a college education. The first class took place at the Petco Park auditorium before the game. Four additional sessions will take place during the season at locations throughout the community. The participants will also receive a ticket to a Padres game.

“Union Bank and the Padres have a long-standing relationship and commitment to San Diego and are passionate about giving back to Padres fans and the community at large,” said Union Bank Regional President Robbin Narike Preciado. “We enjoyed sharing a great night with these two deserving groups, honoring our military and providing financial education.”

“The Padres are proud to have supporters like Union Bank that share our commitment to making a difference in the San Diego community,” said Padres Vice President of Corporate and Event Revenue Jeremy Horowitz. “Together, we are able to use baseball as a platform to give back, as well as to show our appreciation for our service men and women and their families.”

On both days, the groups received special welcomes and messages on the jumbotron and were also featured during fan cam shots.
