  1. La Mesa, the lone East County city that has not had an in-person City Council meeting since March 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic first prompted closures, will continue to hold its meetings virtually. (The San Diego Union-Tribune)
  2. Members of the El Cajon City Council have again said no to a request to contribute more to the maintenance and operations of Harry Griffen Regional Park, claiming that the park is located on land in La Mesa and not their city. (The San Diego Union-Tribune)
  3. Two people are facing charges in connection with alleged sexual abuse of students in their care at the Christian Youth Theater in El Cajon, county District Attorney Summer Stephan said. (City News Service)
  4. An 83-year-old man died in a two-vehicle crash over the weekend in East County. The crash happened Sunday at the intersection of Broadway and Graves Avenue in El Cajon. (City News Service)
  5. A scientist at Scripps Research in La Jolla jointly received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. Ardem Patapoutian was selected for his use of "pressure-sensitive cells" to discover a class of sensors that "respond to mechanical stimuli in the skin and internal organs," according to the Nobel Committee.
