What to Do About Mom? My Parent Is Aging and I Live Far Away!

Here’s a little blurb from The Lost in Translation Global Summit.  Read a little about Fritzi and then listen to the replay her interview below.

Fritzi is a Marine Corps daughter. With a brother born in North Carolina (Camp Lejuene), a brother born in Hawaii (Kailua) and a brother born at Camp Pendleton in California, Fritzi lived 14 places by young adulthood. Her most dramatic move was her senior year of high school from California to Virginia. Fritzi’s family went to California with her dad’s fourth deployment to Vietnam, and then to Japan before returning to California, when he retired from the Marines. Transitioning through these moves offered Fritzi the moxie and underpinnings to develop new skills and understanding in her mission to help older adults retain their independence and dignity while giving family members desired peace of mind.

Fritzi Gros-Daillon is an author and a Certified Living by Design Specialist. She earned her Master’s at Columbia University and spent many years in environmental consulting and senior move management in New York. Fritzi recently completed the National Healthy Homes Rating System Specialist certification and is a hazardous materials instructor, specializing in asbestos and lead, at the Design For Health Training Center in San Diego. Her company, Household Guardians, is a training and consultancy company that helps seniors who want to live independently in their own home. Fritzi’s company reduces the stress for adult children by making the practical changes to a parent’s home. We work with family members returning home from the hospital or rehab and helps families to solve the problems of home safety makeovers, extensive assessment tools and personal consulting.  Household Guardians offers packages that include monthly checks on the client for additional changes, revisions or adaptations.

During this call Fritzi discussed:

  • Things you should consider when living abroad and are dealing with the emotional issues  of long distance care of elderly family members, especially those who want to remain in their own homes
  • Low and high-tech products that offer solutions to ensure that peace of mind is maintained due to aging and deteriorating health for families who live at a distance
  • Useful information on the advantages and disadvantages of independent living household arrangements

Household Guardians launched in late 2012, works mainly with the elderly and their families, focusing on the concerns of aging-in-place.  After an in-depth assessment of the house and any hazards that may be present, on-site solutions are provided using low-tech and high-tech product ideas to maximize the safety aspects within and outside the house.

Household Guardians wants our seniors to retain their independence and dignity and we want the next generation to take the steps to create safe home environments for themselves and worry less about the elders.
