Woman Hospitalized After Electric Bicycle Crash At Friars Road

A San Diego woman riding an electric bicycle flew over the handlebars and suffered major injuries, the San Diego Police Department reported.

SAN DIEGO, CA — A 56-year-old woman who suffered a solo electric bicycle crash at Friars Road and Morena Boulevard Tuesday was placed on life support, authorities reported Wednesday.

The woman was riding an electric bicycle, without a helmet, westbound in the bike lane of 5100 Friars Road shortly before 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to the San Diego Police Department.

"She did not see an abandoned shopping cart that was left in the bike lane and hit it, causing her to fly over the handle bars of the bike and land on her head," the SDPD reported.

The woman, whose name was not released, suffered brain bleed and was taken to a hospital where she was put on life support, according to the SDPD and City News Service reports.

SDPD's Traffic Division was investigating the accident.
