6 Apply For Vacant Lafayette City Council Seat
Interviews will begin this week for the replacement.
LAMORINDA, CA — The Lafayette City Council will begin interviewing candidates Thursday for the council vacancy created June 29 by the resignation of Cameron Burks.
Six people have applied for the spot, which opened when Burks resigned for family reasons more than three years before his term was up.
The council is scheduled to discuss interview questions for an hour before spending 30 minutes interviewing each of the six applicants: Farschad Farzan, Rupy Krishnan, Wei-Tai Kwok, Julie Green, Karen Maggio, and Shama Khan.

The council has the option to select its new member Thursday or at its Aug. 23 regularly scheduled meeting. The winner would hold the office until the next scheduled council election in 2022 and be able to run again.
It wasn't first time Burks tendered a resignation to the council. In 2019, he resigned from his post as Lafayette's mayor in a surprise move he attributed to having a new job he was balancing with being a father and husband. He stayed on to finish his council term, then successfully ran for re-election in 2020.

The Lafayette City Council meets virtually at 6 p.m. Thursday and can be seen at the city's YouTube channel.
