Acalanes School District Closes Schools For 3 Weeks

Classrooms will be empty until at least next month.

LAMORINDA, CA — All high schools will close immediately in the Acalanes Union High School District, the Governing Board decided during an emergency meeting on Friday. The closures are an effort to slow the spring of the new coronavirus, or COVID-19.

Schools are tentatively scheduled to reopen on April 6, but will be re-evaluated as the date approaches.

In a message to the community, the district wrote, "While we have been planning for this possibility for several weeks, and teachers spent the professional development day planning and learning new technologies today anticipating the possibility of school closure, the closure happened very quickly and distance learning supporting all students will still take some time to implement. Parents and students should anticipate announcements coming from the District and schools on Monday regarding the initiation of the program, with learning opportunities beginning as soon as Tuesday morning."
