LAMORINDA, CA — Fire crews from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District are conducting a managed burn today, igniting piled vegetation at the Segora Te’ Land Trust near Canyon.

The operation is aimed at cutting wildfire risk across the East Bay hills. Crews will be igniting the piles around 10:30 a.m. and are expected to end by 4:30 p.m.

They are working with CAL FIRE and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to track smoke movement and maintain air quality standards.

They are monitoring air quality and wind shifts as crews burn stacked debris to reduce hazardous fuels that can accelerate wildfires in dry conditions. District officials said the project supports ongoing maintenance of shaded fuel breaks designed to slow fire spread across steep terrain.

Officials said that crews will halt or reschedule the burn if weather or air quality conditions worsen. Residents in Canyon and drivers along Pinehurst Road may notice visible smoke, or smell it, drifting through the area during active burning hours.

Updates will be published on social channels, including Facebook.
