LAMORINDA, CA — A developer wants to remove 20 trees, move more than 1,200 cubic yards of earth, and build a two-story home on a vacant Lafayette hillside, one of three notable projects heading before city planners Monday.
The Lafayette Planning Commission will consider permits and a variance for a 1,993-square-foot, two-story single-family home at 1716 Reliez Valley Road. Plans call for a maximum height of 20 feet, 7 inches, grading 1,268 cubic yards of earth, removing 20 trees, and placing parking within the side-yard setback.
City staff recommends that commissioners find the project exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act and approve it, subject to conditions.
Commissioners will also consider a land-use permit that would allow the School for Independent Learners, also known as Tilden Preparatory School, to operate at 3435 Mount Diablo Blvd., in the city's General Commercial District 1. The proposal also calls for revoking two previous land-use permits tied to the property.
Staff recommends approving the school proposal, subject to conditions, after finding it exempt from CEQA.
Also on the agenda are draft pre-approved accessory dwelling unit prototypes developed through the Lamorinda Pre-approved Accessory Dwelling Unit program.
The commissions will review the proposed ADU designs and provide feedback before officials prepare final permit-ready plans.
The joint discussion could help shape housing plans intended to give property owners pre-approved designs rather than requiring them to start the design process from scratch.
The Planning Commission meeting starts at 7 p.m. Monday at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center's Don Tatzin Community Hall, 3491 Mount Diablo Boulevard and online.
