LAMORINDA, CA — A reported delay has pushed the opening of Moraga's new Grocery Outlet back by months.
The discount grocer is building a 17,400-square-foot store at 576 Center St. in the Rheem Valley Shopping Center.
But shoppers will wait until early next year before they can get behind a cart.
The Moraga Planning Commission approved a partial redevelopment of the shopping center to accommodate a new grocery store, Lamorinda Weekly reported.
A groundbreaking ceremony marked the project in December 2025. Moraga Mayor Steve Woehleke said at the time that residents welcomed the project.
The store will give Moraga residents another grocery option, according to real estate company Jen Moeller Homes.
Earlier in 2026, the company announced the closure of 36 underperforming stores in California.
In contrast, the Moraga location joins new Grocery Outlet stores in Oakland and San Francisco as the company adds Bay Area locations.
