WANTED: Moraga Town Manager - Good Pay, Good Benefits - Must Want to Stay!

Phil Vince left Moraga for Martinez and Mike Segrest appears headed for a new job elsewhere - and Moraga is advertising for someone to manage it. Do you fit the bill?

Moraga hasn't had much luck in the Town Manager department in recent years.

Phil Vince, widely known and respected around town, left Moraga for - Martinez. Mike Segrest, hired a little more than a year ago to replace him, caught the Town Council flatfooted when it became apparent he was unhappy in Moraga and was looking for work elsewhere.

"I don't get it," wrote Lamorinda Patch regular Tom Moore.  "It seems like a pretty good job with good pay and some pretty cool benefits, but everyone who takes the job seems to want to leave it."

Why?  Segrest said officially after it was learned he was seeking work in Colorado and possibly Lake Tahoe, that his wife Debbie's respiratory issues were behind his decision to leave town.

He was appointed to the $180,000-per-year position in February 2009 to replace interim Town Manager Jay Toshiro, who came out of retirement to fill in for Vince - who left in June, 2008.

Segrest said he did not tell the council about his job search because he didn't want to create unneccessary turmoil - and though council members officially wished him well in his search, critics say it left some residents with the impression that Moraga was a "rudderless ship."

In any event the town has contracted with executive recruitment firm Peckham & McKenney to find a suitable replacement.  Their job description and hoped-for qualifications are given in the attached PDF.
