Assistance League’s Operation School Bell Lauds Fehr & Peers

Since 1994, Operation School Bell®, Assistance League’s nationally acclaimed philanthropic program, has provided clothing to local elementary schoolchildren to improve attendance, campus citizenship and academic performance. Since 2006, Assistance League of Diablo Valley has enjoyed a Corporate Partnerships component, where employee volunteers from local businesses and corporations become hands-on involved with several of our philanthropic programs.

On September 27, five employee volunteers from Fehr & Peers, world known transportation specialists with an office located in Walnut Creek, made yet another return visit to Assistance League of Diablo Valley’s Annex. While there, they continued its mission of improving underserved communities that include low-income, minority, and limited-English-proficiency populations, as well as seniors, children, and persons with disabilities, by supporting nonprofit organizations.

Assistance League® of Diablo Valley Corporate Partners Chairman Linda Mercer greeted the enthusiastic employee volunteers with a brief overview as to how their hands-on support with Operation School Bell furthers a successful school experience for children. She added that 250 schoolchildren from Meadow Homes Elementary School in Concord, a uniform school in MDUSD, look forward to excelling in the academic arena. GO ROAD RUNNERS!

In a mere two hours’ time, all involved had placed six pairs of socks, six pairs of underwear, a sweatshirt, two pairs of pants for the boys or one pair of pants and one pair of shorts, one pair of pants and one skort (upon request) for the girls, and three white, collared shirts—all into large, reusable blue bags. Together, Assistance League of Diablo Valley and Fehr & Peers improved lives in the community by putting “Caring and Commitment into Action.” When two community-minded organizations work in partnership, EVERYBODY WINS!
