Caldecott Tunnel To Stay Open During Power Shutoff

Caltrans had planned to close the tunnels. PG&E is now providing generators.

LAMORINDA, CA — A looming traffic nightmare has been resolved with word that the Caldecott Tunnel will remain open during a Public Safety Power Shutoff planned by PG&E.

Caltrans announced Tuesday evening that it would completely shut down all bores because, "The tunnels can't operate without power."

PG&E is now providing generators to Caltrans, which are being installed overnight in a rush to get them in place before the power goes out.
