Dozen-Plus Thefts From Vehicles Logged Tuesday Night In Moraga

The Moraga Police Department responded to more than a dozen thefts from cars Tuesday night.

In each case, police said, the car was unlocked in either a driveway or parked on a street.

Moraga officers also have a video recording of a subject checking car doors on parked cars. The department is asking residents who have home-surveillance to check footage from Tuesday night. Police are interested in recordings that may show suspects loitering near vehicles or checking car doors last night.

Officers also remind residents that burglaries and thefts from automobiles are usually crimes of opportunity and can be easily prevented. It takes less than 30 seconds for a person to observe potentially valuable property, break the window and remove the property. Opening an unlocked car door and quickly searching for valuables can take even less time. If you lock and remove valuables from your car, you are not providing the opportunity and the crime is often not committed, police said.
