Invented in France, Petanque (pay-TAHNK) is a game similar to bocce, but the balls need not be rolled on the ground. The object is to throw boules (metal balls about the size of baseballs) to land as close as possible to a cochonnet or jack (wooden ball about the size of a golf ball).
It's a simple but fun game, offering the opportunity for development of a high level of skill. It is simply the most fun you can have standing up and you don't need to be particularly athletic to play.
Come down to the Lamorinda Petanque Club at 480 St Marys Road in Lafayette for an introduction to the game, or if you have got a set of boules and know how to play, come down and give them some exercise!
