FORMER CONGRESSMAN BILL BAKER TO SPEAK ON GOP 2010 ELECTION STRATEGY SEPTEMBER 16 IN ORINDA
Former Congressman Bill Baker (R-CA-10) is the featured speaker at the 11:30am Thursday, September 16th luncheon meeting of the Lamorinda Republican Women's club. Baker will discuss the importance of grassroots organization to GOP victory this November. Additionally Republican City Council candidates from central Contra Costa, including Justin Wedel (Walnut Creek), Jack Weir (Pleasant Hill) and club members Traci Reilly (Lafayette) and Gay Gerlack (Martinez), will be on hand to introduce themselves to club members. Bill Baker started his career as a budget analyst for the State Department of Finance, following which he was Executive Director of the Contra Costa Taxpayers Association providing leadership on such issues as Prop. 13 and the Death Penalty Initiative. During these years Baker wrote a weekly column in the Contra Costa Times called The Angry Taxpayer.
In 1980 Baker won a seat in the 15th Assembly District (which had voter registration of 38% Republican and 39% Democrat at the time – much different from today) where he served until his election to Congress in 1992, where he served until 1996.

Today Baker manages an investment management firm in Walnut Creek, where he lives with his wife, Joanne. Bill continues to volunteer for Republican candidates and in recent months has worked as a volunteer with son Rob on the "GOP Victory 2010" campaign at Contra Costa Party headquarters offices in Danville.
Lamorinda Republican Women Federated (LRWF) was founded in 1950 and its membership is open to all registered Republicans. Meetings are open to the public. The club has over 150 members and is dedicated to the promotion of the Republican platform; the election of Republican candidates; presentation of local and national issues and legislative and ballot measures; and to provide a forum for discussing these issues.
