Firefighters Halt 5 Acre Grass Fire In Moraga

No homes were lost and no injuries were reported.

LAMORINDA, CA — Firefighters from three different departments battled a five-acre grass fire in Moraga that began behind a residence today, bringing it under control this afternoon, fire officials said.

Crews responded to the unit block of La Salle Drive around 11:20 a.m. and found a grass hill behind the house and burning toward the ridge, according to fire officials.

The fire on the ridge could be seen from Campolindo High School, which fire officials described as a cause for concern, but no evacuations were needed, no structures were damaged and no injuries were reported.

Forty firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District, Contra Costa County Fire and Cal Fire responded to the scene, fire officials said.

The crews had the fire under control by 12:20 p.m. Moraga-Orinda Fire District crews will stay at the scene
throughout the day to be sure the blaze doesn't re-ignite, according to fire officials.

Fire officials said the fire might have been caused by someone operating a weed eater in tall, dry grass behind one of the residences, and cautioned people not to use power equipment during the heat of the day.
