In Lafayette: Flesh and Mind Art Exhibit

JENNIFER PERLMUTTER GALLERY TO OPEN EXHIBIT: “FLESH AND MIND”

Group show in Lafayette, CA features artists Kerry Sorenson, Polly Frizzell and Elizabeth Jameson

Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery, a new contemporary art gallery in Lafayette, CA, presents “Flesh and Mind”. Exploring the ephemeral, the artists use technology and fabrication to bring attention to the non-material ideas of beauty, pain, love and existence. The three-person, multimedia exhibit runs through March 21.

Kerry Sorenson paints abstract landscapes and figures in oils by color mapping digital images to create a topographical effect in oil of shape and contrast that is uniquely beautiful.

Polly Frizzell uses shadow to explore the convergence of intangible and material bodies. “The surfaces I create look the way they do because I’m interested in the way materials have been “brutalized”; clay in the fire of the kiln, dirt and plants torn apart by floodplains, urban decay.”

Elizabeth Jameson’s work exists in the spaces between science and art, between society and disease. By focusing on the internal and unseen, her art conveys an aesthetic of selfhood that expands on what it means to be human, challenging viewers to see themselves as more than simply their external likeness.

Flesh and Mind is as much about the intersection between virtual reality and accepted reality as it is about what art has to say in our modern times. The owner of the eponymous gallery, Jennifer Perlmuttter, says, “We are all creators. And this show shares mysteries, intangibles, and discoveries within the subject matter, as well as the art-going experience itself.”

“Flesh and Mind“ will be open to the public Tuesday-Saturday, 11:00AM-5:00PM and by appointment, at Jennifer Perlmutter Gallery, 3620 Mt. Diablo Blvd., Lafayette, CA 94549.
