Gusty Winds Prompt Wind Advisory In Lamorinda

LAMORINDA, CA — Gusty winds arrived in Lamorinda and the East Bay early Friday, prompting the National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area to issue a wind advisory for the East Bay interior valleys, East Bay hills and the Diablo Range.

The advisory was expected to remain in place through 7 a.m. Saturday for Oakland, Fremont, Hayward, Berkeley, Concord, Antioch, Livermore, Walnut Creek, Pleasanton, Pittsburg, San Ramon and Blackhawk.

North to northeast winds of 15-30 mph were in the forecast, with gusts 40-55 mph expected and gusts of 60-70 mph possible over the East Bay Hills.

In Lafayette, the National Weather Service predicts winds of up to 38 mph throughout Friday afternoon, up to 46 mph in the evening, and gusts of up to 36 mph through Saturday. Winds will finally die down Sunday, slowing to 3 to 6 mph.

"Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects," the advisory states. "Tree limbs could be blown down and power outages may occur."

Elsewhere in the Bay Area, the strongest winds are forecast over the higher terrain with a high wind warning in effect for the North Bay mountains through 11 a.m. Saturday. A wind advisory was issued for the San Francisco Peninsula Coast, North Bay valleys and Santa Cruz Mountains.

The strongest winds are expected Friday night into Saturday morning in the region.

"Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high-profile vehicle," the weather service said. "Secure outdoor objects."
