Key Lamorinda Committee Interview Set For Veteran Engineer

LAMORINDA, CA — After three decades on the committee, a longtime resident wants to keep serving — and city leaders will be interviewing him for another term.

Lafayette City Council subcommittee will interview longtime resident and retired public works director Lee Thompson for a seat on the city's Capital Projects Assessment Committee at a special meeting Sept. 1.

The city scheduled Thompson's interview for 4 p.m. at the Lafayette City Offices, 3675 Mt. Diablo Boulevard. The interview is the only one listed on the agenda.

Thompson applied for a position on the Capital Projects Assessment Committee, according to his application, which the city received July 17.

Thompson wrote that he has lived in Lafayette for 60 years and retired in 2003 from nearby Dublin, where he worked as city engineer and public works director, according to the application included as Item 5a in the meeting packet.

His application lists five years working on California State Bay Toll Crossing bridges, four years with Price Brothers Construction as a field engineer building BART Army Lens Intake Creek, five years with the City of Walnut Creek as an assistant city engineer, and 14 years as an owner of Smith & Thompson Consulting Engineers.

Thompson also listed 21 years with the City of Dublin as city engineer and public works director.

Asked to list his most recent public or civic volunteer experience, Thompson wrote that he has served on CPAC "for last 30 years," according to the second page of his application.
