Lafayette Names Interim City Manager

LAMORINDA, CA — Niroop Srivatsa was appointed as Lafayette's interim city manager Monday during a meeting of the City Council after serving as the director of Planning and Building Services for 17 years, according to a statement issued by city officials Wednesday.

Srivatsa will take over for Steven Falk, who is leaving at the end of the year after serving as city manager since 1996. Councilmembers hope to find a permanent replacement by spring.

Mayor Cameron Burks called Srivatsa an "outstanding, deeply qualified leader who will play an integral role in moving our City forward."

"Our community is profoundly fortunate to have Niroop working for them as interim city manager," Burks said.

Falk praised her work ethic, as well as her love for and dedication to Lafayette.

"She has a rich and unmatched understanding of the city's major physical, engineering, and development challenges," he added. "Ms. Srivatsa will serve ably as the city's interim city manager."

Srivatsa has worked in local government for 30 years, including 24 years with the city of Lafayette. During that time, she has served in multiple leadership roles, including during major emergencies like flooding that affected the city in 2000.

Prior to working at Lafayette, she also served the city of Naperville, Illinois, near Chicago, from 1982 to 1989 as an associate planner and chief city planner.
