Join us for a welcome reception on Tuesday, Oct. 14 from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center.

The City of Lafayette Public Art Committee welcomes its newest exhibit, “California Oaks Series” featuring local photographer, Dave Dondero. Join us for a welcome reception on Tuesday, October 14th from 6:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, Library Gallery.
Dave Dondero describes the significance of the California Oaks Series. “Together with the giant sequoia, our oaks are California’s defining tree. Live oak, valley oak, blue and black, these remarkable trees have shaped our personal environment and visual landscape. We played in them as children, walk the paths that wind among them, admire their stately command of hillsides and parks, protect them from indiscriminate harm, and sometimes grieve when they fall to illness or ill winds.”
Dave Dondero is an Orinda native. He and his wife, Karol, have lived in Lafayette for more than fifteen years. Dave has spent countless hours in the field capturing most of the oak varieties of central California in a unique style often likened to intensely detailed paintings. His work is enhanced by strong perspectives and dynamic light, suffused with color that engages the viewer. He uses a relatively new technique that begins with multiple images of a scene across a range of light and later combines them into a single monolithic image that becomes a unique interaction between artist, photograph and the familiar environment.
