LAMORINDA, CA—The uglier, the better if competing for the world's ugliest dog title.

For Daisy Mae, a 14-year-oldish mixed-breed dog from Lafayette, it was a shoo-in—almost. The pooch came in third place in the World's Ugliest Dog Contest held Friday at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma.

In addition to bragging rights, Daisy also won a $2,000 cut from $10,000 in prize money provided by MUG Root Beer, the contest sponsor.
