LAMORINDA, CA — A Lafayette Police officer was hit by the car door of a fleeing suspect and a second officer narrowly missed being hit Thursday morning, when officers on a traffic stop learned that the driver had an active warrant. The ensuing police chase and manhunt snarled morning traffic on Highway 24. The suspect, 22-year-old Cothell Palmore of Antioch, was eventually arrested.
This drama began to unfold around 6:15 a.m. when a Lafayette police officer stopped a Nissan on Mt. Diablo Boulevard. Officers were aware that the driver had an outstanding arrest warrant. Once the driver became aware of the warrant, he drove away at a high rate of speed, striking one officer with the vehicle door and almost striking another officer who was attempting to detain him.
A pursuit on westbound Highway 24 ended when the driver bailed out on footjust east of the Wilder exit. He ran north into the surrounding hills
