Massive Tree Topples, Crushes Cars in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, CA - A 150-foot-tall eucalyptus tree fell over in Saturday night's winds, crushing a row of vehicles parked at a popular restaurant.

It happened at La Finestra Ristorante on Lafayette Circle, as a large group celebrated a birthday inside the restaurant. Fortunately, the tree fell away from from building and no one was hurt.

Crews spent Monday cutting up part of the tree and feeding it through a chipper. When finished, the damaged and destroyed vehicles will be towed away.

The restaurant remains open while the cleanup is underway.
