Mike Anderson Chosen As Lafayette Mayor For 2020

Anderson's priorities include reviewing and possibly expanding city-owned video security systems to enhance citywide safety.

LAMORINDA, CA — Mike Anderson, a member of the Lafayette City Council since 2004, was chosen by his colleagues to continue in his role as mayor for 2020.

Also, Vice Mayor Susan Candell will serve in that capacity again in 2020.

Anderson was also Lafayette's mayor in 2007, 2012 and 2016. Last April, he succeeded Cam Burks, who stepped down as mayor due to work commitments, though Burks remains on the council.

Candell was elected to the City Council in 2018 and became vice mayor in April when Anderson became mayor. Also on the five-member council are Steven Bliss and Teresa Gerringer.

Among the mayoral goals Anderson outlined Monday are beginning an update of the city's General Plan, increasing community awareness of state legislation on Lafayette's planning and development review processes, adding three members to the city's Capital Project Advisory Committee to evaluate the operation of public utilities in Lafayette, and reviewing and possibly expanding city-owned video security systems to enhance citywide safety.
