Moraga Man Will Run 6th Marathon To Raise Money For Diabetes
Matt Curran will run the Boston Marathon this month to raise money for research for Type 1 diabetes, which his 12-year-old daughter has.

LAMORINDA, CA — In his early twenties, Moraga resident Matt Curran set a goal to complete six marathons in his life. Almost thirty years later, he’s on track to reach that goal. Curran plans to run the Boston Marathon this April to raise money for the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, according to a news release.
For Curran, the goal is personal: his 12-year-old daughter Allie has Type 1 diabetes, and was diagnosed at just three-and-a-half years old. He and his wife Sarah also discovered that her great-uncle passed away from the same condition at a young age.
Since his daughter’s diagnosis, Curran has gotten involved with a number of diabetes organizations, including sitting on the board of Diabetes Youth Families, which provides educational and recreational programs for families with T1D.

Curran became familiar with Joslin Diabetes Center, a federally designated Diabetes Center affiliated with Harvard Medical School. In running the marathon, he hopes to become better acquainted with their research and work toward finding a cure. A Vermont native with family in the Boston area, Curran said he is also excited to have extended family cheering him on. This is his first time running the Boston Marathon, and the experience will be especially meaningful since his sister Kelly, who died last year, always encouraged him to run it.
“We are very grateful for Joslin’s support and know their efforts have helped Allie have the freedom and independence that was not available to others decades ago,” he said in a statement.
