Orinda Crash Caused By Speeding Driver: CHP

The passenger in a BMW was nearly killed in the crash Sunday, according to the CHP.

LAMORINDA, CA — A speeding and possibly racing BMW driver nearly killed his passenger when he crashed into a Toyota Prius near Orinda on Sunday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The BMW driver, a 33-year-old Martinez resident, was driving on Bear Creek Road near San Pablo Dam Road when he crashed into the Prius.

The BMW and Prius drivers suffered only minor injuries, but a passenger in the BMW, a 30-year-old woman, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.

CHP officials did not provide an update on her condition Monday.

The BMW driver may have been drinking prior to the crash, according to the CHP. He has not been charged pending completion of the investigation.
