CWS can alert residents and businesses within Contra Costa County that are impacted by, or are in danger of being impacted by an emergency. Please note that every emergency is different and some lower level emergencies may require less alerting tools and the higher level emergencies may require more tools.

During an emergency CWS is able to use the following tools:
- Voice, Text, and Email
- Social Media
- NOAA Weather Radios
- Wireless Emergency Alerts
- Emergency Alert System
- Sirens (Refinery Incidents)
Common alerts are:
- Evacuate Immediately
- Avoid the Area
- Attempt to Locate Missing Person
- Law Enforcement Activity - Lockdown
- Shelter-in-Place
