The panelists will engage in dialogue on issues raised in the public debate about higher education in America: affordability, student debt, student learning, and student success broadly defined. This discussion will be moderated by Christopher Sindt, Dean of the Kalmanovitz School of Education.

Catharine Bond HillCatharine Bond Hill

Catharine Bond Hill became the tenth president of Vassar College in July 2006. Hill is a noted economist whose work focuses on higher education affordability and access, as well as on economic development and reform in Africa. Under Hill’s leadership, Vassar has reinstated need-blind admissions and replaced loans with grants in financial aid for low-income families. Hill has been selected for a number of scholarly awards, grants, and fellowships from organizations including the American Council of Learned Societies, Brookings Institution, National Science Foundation, and Social Science Research Council. Hill previously served on the Board of the College Board, the NCAA Division III Presidents Council, and on the Board of the Yale-NUS College, Singapore’s first liberal arts college.

R. Stanton HalesR. Stanton Hales

R. Stanton Hales served as president of The College of Wooster from 1995 to 2007 and prior to that for five years as Wooster’s vice president for academic affairs. Earlier, Dr. Hales was professor of mathematics and associate dean of the college at Pomona College, where he received the Rudolph J. Wig Distinguished Professorship Award. Hales currently serves as a Senior Vice President at Academic Search.
