Prepare For Smoke: Planned Ridge Burn Tuesday, Thursday In Lamorinda

LAMORINDA, CA — Firefighters will carry out planned burns at Mulholland Ridge Open Space this week.

The Town of Moraga, the City of Orinda, and the Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District announced that prescribed fire operations are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday at the east end of Orinda Oaks Park and along the ridge trail at Mulholland Ridge Open Space.

Crews will burn vegetation to establish and maintain a strategic fuel break, an important wildfire mitigation measure that slows the spread of fire, improves evacuation routes, creates safer working conditions for firefighters, and supports the long-term health of native grassland ecosystems.

Crews will conduct the burns during the cooler morning hours, treating an area about 100 feet wide along the roadway. Daily operations are expected to conclude by 1 p.m.

Residents, especially those living along Donald Drive and in the Rheem Valley neighborhood, should expect to see smoke and fire activity while crews work.

Officials encourage residents to keep windows and doors closed during burn operations to reduce smoke exposure.

Drivers traveling on Moraga Road and Moraga Way may also encounter smoke in the area.

Officials said the prescribed burns will be postponed if weather or fuel conditions become unsuitable.
