Saint Mary's McConnell Drafted By the Los Angeles... Dodgers?
SMC point guard Mickey McConnell is a talented athlete and standout basketball player. He also plays baseball, but hasn't suited up in years. That's why a surprise move by the LA Dodgers has McConnell's fans scratching their heads.
If you follow Gaels basketball you're aware of the last-minute heroics and overall leadership qualities exhibited by Saint Mary's point guard Mickey McConnell. Before he picked up the big brown ball he was known for slinging the little white one, and even though he hasn't played baseball in four years, it appears his skill set hasn't been forgotten in the Big Leagues.
Here's Dime magazine's Kevin Zimmerman and his take on how McConnell, who has been working out with a couple of pro basketball squads lately with an eye toward going pro - ended up being selected by the LA Dodgers Wednesday in the 91st round of the MLB draft.
We don't know how that will go down with local Giant's fans, but it speaks well for McConnell's abilities.
