The Dollar Tree? In Moraga?
Rumors have been circulating for weeks but the official stance has been "we haven't heard anything from the Dollar Store." Well, that position appears to have changed, along with the name of the store.
There has been talk for some time of a Dollar Store or other discount chain setting up shop at the Rheem Valley Center and it looks as if that's true - with an application from the Dollar Tree chain currently in front of town planners.
It appears the Dollar Tree has its eye on 542 Center Street in the center, at the location formerly occupied by BlockBuster video, and it appears the planning department is evaluating that request, with a special meeting on their application called for Aug. 23.
Local wags have talked about the sorry retail environment in Moraga for some time, and some of the most vocal have condemned the town for considering applications from businesses they felt were not in line with the needs of families living in a community with one of the highest median incomes in the country.
