Update: Jarvis Fire in Los Angeles County is now 100% contained (fresnobee.com) β€” A wildfire that started near West Avenue G-8 and 90th Street West in Lancaster has burned 362 acres but is now 100% contained, meaning firefighters have a line around the entire perimeter. Flames may still burn inside the lines, yet officials say the fire is no longer expected to spread, giving nearby Lancaster residents some breathing room after two tense days.

2. Sen. Valladares, Asm. Lackey Oppose Proposed Placement of Sexually Violent Predator in Lancaster (ca.gov) β€” State lawmakers are urging Antelope Valley residents to speak out about a proposal to house a conditionally released sexually violent predator at a residence on 200th Street East in Lancaster. A Los Angeles County judge will consider the Lancaster address at a September 10 hearing, and community comments sent to the District Attorney's Office may be shared with the court.

Authorities still investigating shooting of detective (avpress.com) β€” A San Bernardino County sheriff's detective shot during an investigation in Littlerock is recovering at Antelope Valley Medical Center in Lancaster after successful surgery for a gunshot wound. Los Angeles County homicide detectives and San Bernardino authorities are still piecing together what led to the shooting, which left the suspect dead, and are asking anyone with information to contact investigators or Crime Stoppers.
