CORTE MADERA, CA — High tides flooded roads in Corte Madera and Larkspur this week, stranding vehicles and forcing road closures as officials warned of continued coastal flooding, according to KTVU and Marin County emergency officials.

Rising water blocked Golden Hind Passage near The Cove School in Corte Madera on Tuesday, trapping some vehicles and interrupting deliveries, KTVU reported.

The flooding also affected local businesses and neighborhoods, prompting residents to place sandbags and protective barriers around their properties.

Marin County emergency officials reported flooding-related closures along Golden Hind Passage in Corte Madera and Larkspur Plaza Drive near Creekside Drive in Larkspur.

The National Weather Service extended its coastal flood advisory through 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, warning that low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways could experience flooding.

Forecasters said water could reach nearly 2 feet above ground level in vulnerable locations, with road closures and coastal erosion possible.

The Central Marin Police Authority previously warned residents about unusually high tides from Oct. 26-30. Predicted water levels at the Richmond tide gauge were expected to reach 6.8 feet Tuesday and Wednesday.

Police said observed water levels had recently been running about a foot higher than forecast, increasing flooding concerns in low-lying neighborhoods.

Officials urged motorists to avoid flooded roads, follow posted closures and allow extra travel time. Pedestrians and cyclists should also avoid floodwater, which can conceal debris and other hazards.

Residents can monitor road closures and flooding conditions through Marin County's emergency information portal.
