CORTE MADERA, CA — Unusually high tides could flood roads and shoreline areas in Corte Madera this week, potentially causing road closures and hazardous driving conditions.
The National Weather Service issued a coastal flood advisory Tuesday, warning that water could rise as much as 1.6 feet above ground level in vulnerable areas. The highest tides are expected Friday through Sunday.
According to a town announcement, water levels could exceed predicted tides by more than a foot during late-morning high tides, increasing the risk of flooding.
Drivers should avoid standing water and follow road barricades, as even shallow flooding can create hazardous conditions.
Residents and business owners are encouraged to clear debris from gutters and drains, protect flood-prone properties and avoid areas where water has accumulated.
To help residents prepare, Corte Madera is offering free sandbags at two fill-your-own stations: Fire Station 14, 342 Tamalpais Drive, and the Paradise Drive parking lot at San Clemente Park.
The advisory remains in effect from 6 a.m. Wednesday through 1 p.m. Monday.
Additional information is available on the town's sandbag webpage. Residents can also register for emergency notifications through AlertMarin or Nixle.
