Tea Party at the Teacake
Kids can drop in to decorate cupcakes and cookies at the Teacake Bake Shop in Corte Madera Town Center
Everyone loves cupcakes. Especially best friends Hannah and Kaia, both 6 years old. We decided to have a tea party at the in Corte Madera Town Center and decorate cupcakes and cookies. As the girls readied to create some sweet treats their excitement grew.
Inside the bake shop, they sat at a child-size table with colorful chairs and were given everything they needed to begin having fun decorating their desserts: cupcakes, cookies, icing, plastic knives, and two little trays of all colors and shapes of sprinkles.
As Kaia noticed that the two trays of sprinkles were a little different, she said, “We can share them, right Hannah?… cause we’re friends.”

They have been friends since, as Kaia said, “We were in each other's stomachs!” Then Hannah laughed and said, “No … since we were born!” They both looked at each other and laughed.
They were both focused as they iced and decorated their creations. And, there was a lot of giggling as they shared 6 year old conversation.

Kaia had recently returned from a family trip to Singapore and Hannah said, “She had to sleep twice in a row.” Kaia added, “I was jetlagged, so I really didn’t sleep.”
Hannah shared, “A few days ago we had a really fun playdate … we ran through the sprinklers and ate a bunch of cookies.” Then Kaia added with a smile and twinkle in her eye, “We ran through the SPRINKLES!” as she pointed to the tray of sprinkles.
When I asked them if they liked school, Hannah shared that she was excited to go into 1st grade because, “We don’t have to do a lot of singing … and we get bigger chairs!” Kaia added, “And I’m looking forward to homework. … And I will only have two recesses, just for snack and lunch. … And I have to do one-minute math. You know why? Because I have to solve all these problems in one minute.”
Icing was slowly covering the table and their faces and hands. As Kaia was licking the icing off of her hands, I asked if she wanted a napkin. She said, “No, I’ll use my mouth. …It’s better, I don’t want to waste trees.”
Kaia asked, “Hannah, do you like mine? Which cupcake do you like more, yours or mine?” and Hannah answered, “Yours are definitely more neat … but I don’t care what mine looks like 'cause it’s still yummy.”
Hannah had finished decorating and was continuing to eat her cookie while Kaia was carefully placing each sprinkle on the little mountains of icing.
When their creations were finished, I asked them if they would want to decorate cupcakes again. Hannah said, “Yeah…lots of cupcakes!” and Kaia said, “Yup, I want to do it every day!”
As they left the Teacake Bake Shop, tightly holding onto their boxed sweet creations, they both said over and over, “That was soooo fun!
The smiles and icing on their faces said it all. Best friends sharing another FUN time together … collecting sweet memories.
Until next Wednesday, remember, it’s all “for the love of kids…”
In joy, Marilyn
