3 Students Hurt When School Bus Brakes To Avoid Crash

The three were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries after the incident in Spring Valley, police said.

SPRING VALLEY, CA – Three students suffered minor injuries this morning when the school bus they were riding in swerved and stopped suddenly to avoid a car that pulled in front of it, authorities said.

It happened shortly before 7:15 a.m. near the intersection of Bancroft Drive and Helix Street, California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt said.

The La Mesa-Spring Valley School District bus was traveling near the intersection when a vehicle pulled out in front of it and the bus had to swerve and stop abruptly to avoid a collision, Bettencourt said.

Three of the nine students on board were taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, San Miguel Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief Gehrig Browning said.

Parents were called to the scene to pick up the children who were not hospitalized, 10News reported.
