Checks to Be Delayed for Lemon Grove Unemployed, Disabled

The delay of at least one day is due to state computer upgrades.

Benefit payments will be delayed by at leastΒ one day for Lemon GroveΒ recipients and others throughout the stateΒ while California's employment departmentΒ temporarily shuts downΒ its database for system upgrades.

Next week'sΒ delay will affect checks for unemployment, disability and paid family leave.Β Β The latest figures from the state Employment Development Department (EDD) showed aΒ slight increaseΒ in Lemon Grove'sΒ unemployment rate ofΒ 9.2 percent in June, up from 8.5 percent in May.

β€œWe apologize to our customersΒ for any inconveniences experienced during this time and encourage them to planΒ their personal finances accordingly,"Β Sharon Hilliard, the unemployment department'sΒ chief deputy director, said in a statement.

The EDD will be making changes to its online system to offer more features to users. More details about all of the services affected by the temporary shutdown, which is expected to end at 6 a.m. Tuesday, are availableΒ here.
