Forever Blooms: A New Business Blossoms

On Lester Street, the flowers tell the story.

You can’t miss the giant blooming sunflowers in front of this new business. I’ve heard tales of people stopping to have their picture taken standing next to the welcoming patch of six-foot-tall smiling suns. Inquiring minds have to ask: why are they here?

Let me be the first to introduce you to , a new Lemon Grove business. Owners Lupita and David Lopez opened their full-service flower shop this spring. These florists offer a wide variety of very fresh flowers, for individual sales as well as wholesale to businesses. They specialize in custom flower arrangements for parties, special events, and all other occasions.

David says he is trying to increase the shop’s visibility. “Driving by, some people didn’t even know there is a flower shop here. What we’ve done is expand the hours from what the former florist had, and now were movin’ it,” he said. I would say the giant sunflowers in front take care of the visibility issue, and it’s obvious that these new owners have drive and determination that will make their business successful.

The reason I say these flowers are “very fresh” is that a good portion of them arrive daily from David’s parents’ flower farm in Encinitas. I can attest from what I saw here that you are getting the freshest product.

Keep in mind that cut flowers, like produce, get cheaper as their useful life gets closer to the end. So be smart. At Forever Blooms, you can buy fresh local flowers at a reasonable price that will last in your vase a lot longer. Lupita said her best seller is the mixed long-stemmed flower bouquet for $5. What a bargain! I’ve seen similar bouquets in the checkout lane at the supermarket for at least twice the price.

It seems that the building has an interesting history. Lupita told me a rather senior woman stopped by for some flowers the other day, and said she had worked there more than fifty years ago when it housed the city’s first newspaper. I had no luck with my fact checking for former local newspapers. Anyone know the answer?

Forever Blooms is located at 7834 Lester Avenue, between Lemon Grove Avenue and Grove Street. The shop is open seven days a week (including all holidays) from 9:00 a.m.–7:00 p.m. They take cash and credit cards.
